Fiber Arts

Claude Larson has been creating with fiber for most of her life. In 1999 she was introduced to art quilting and decided to throw away all her sewing patterns and use her most precious resource, time, to only make what she could not buy. This decision has created endless possibilities for playing with color, pattern and shape. Her art practice evolved by merging self-directed education about the elements of art to her strong skillset with textiles and stitch. Her skills expanded to include fabric dyeing, improvisational composition and using mixed media in her art quilts.

As a natural progression to creating art quilts, Claude began to explore collage. The practice of stitching small pieces of fabric together and joining small pieces of paper together was an easy transition that allowed her to expand how she works with fiber. Her exploration continued to the practice of painting with acrylics and mixed media. She enjoys each of these mediums’ unique qualities and continuously explores the possibilities each one brings to the creative process.
